About Client
Our client is a diversified Fortune 500, privately-owned company whose largest business is pork production for domestic and foreign consumption. The corporation employs over 5,000 workers, with an annual revenue of over $1.9 billion. The company produces, markets, exports, and sells meat products, specializing in fresh, frozen, and processed pork offerings distributed to foodservice operators, grocery stores, retailers, and distributors. Additionally, the corporation transforms animal fat into biodiesel fuel post-shipping.
The Challenge
The client wanted a comprehensive and centralized inventory management system that allows accurate inventory counts and states across all eight distribution warehouses. Due to the vast amount of raw data shared in the five states with warehouses, there were few ideas for executing and building a website while achieving the requirements of the Business Analyst, Inventory Management team, and company stakeholders.
- Unable to maintain application value and maximize operational efficiencies.
- Unable to identify the current inventory levels, the condition of the inventory (fresh, frozen, on-hold, partial, wipe, etc.) and inventory location (including coming in, out, or in transit) of products.
Technology Stack
The Solution
Our team needed to create an interface that users found easy to use with an attractive, modern look and feel. Because of the massive amount of data and organization systems across the various companies, we needed to work with the client closely and provide multiple ideas to work through the design and organization. We needed to provide detailed documentation so the company could update its system in the future.
Frontend Modernization
A user-friendly interface is crucial to providing a seamless experience for users. To modernize their frontend experience, we revived 400 green screens, which entailed a completely redesigned IBM iSeries (AS400) user interface. The updated interface makes all features easily accessible, visually appealing, and intuitive.
Material UI Framework for React.js
To plan and design a conceptual framework (MUI) to serve as a foundation for data at the modular level, we completed a comprehensive examination of their system’s data collection and organization. The design team created and implemented interactive prototype mockups to keep the designs current. Developers did extensive testing to determine stresses and solutions using numerous examples.
Process Documentation
The team explained the background of each module, why they opted for certain elements, and how they aligned with the original objective stated in the creative brief. The client appreciated the addition of a concept title and statement to differentiate between each visual direction. Subsequently, we created documentation illustrating these applications to efficiently maintain and update their system using React components with minimal interference.
Navigation Update
The design team worked on each module’s intricate functional flow described in a challenging Excel and Word document. Users can access specific features and utilize dynamic visuals with a vertical side navigation bar. The presence of a navigation menu dramatically impacts the user experience.
Style Guide Creation
The design team developed a Style Guide to reflect Seaboard’s corporate style and maintain brand consistency in all writing and design. The Style Guide ensures that various content creators contribute in a coordinated way.
Business Impact
The integrated real-time platform aids in making informed decisions about stock levels, improves customer service and reduces operational costs to make necessary adjustments and improve internal discrepancies efficiently.
The project increased the accuracy and reliability of records to improve inventory management and internal control.
The client is pleased with the Warehouse Inventory Management website design. The user interface is attractive and intuitive. The improvement in navigation made it much easier to categorize options with user-specific access control.
