Experience Required: 6 to 13 Years
The Power Electronics Machine Learning Engineer is expected to have an excellent and broad knowledge of computer science, machine learning and data management. They will apply this expertise to the domain of power electronics in a characterisation, modelling and simulation environment. They will:
- Explore and analyse simulation results & physical test data to identify trends and suitable predictive models that can be used to optimise system performance
- Work with the Power Electronics team to proactively suggest ways in which AI/ML technology can be applied intelligently to the team’s work pipeline
- Translate CSA Catapult power electronics engineering expertise to computer science domain for optimization using AI/ML tools
- Develop methodologies and tools to address power electronics multi-objective optimisation and design automation using AI/ML techniques to minimise simulation time
- Act as (or assist) the Technical Authority (TA) on related projects. The TA will ensure that the project/customer technical requirements are met, have the authority on technical decision-making, coordinate the technical activities and be the project design and innovation lead.
- Support the Project Manager on multiple complex projects simultaneously to deliver technical work packages within quality, time, and cost targets.
- Coordinate with other members of the engineering and technology teams as part of an integrated project team, providing technical guidance and instruction.
- Provide detailed design and analysis of experiments.
- Technical reporting to each project team and wider audience to demonstrate regular progress.
- Consult with the Business Development team and customers to identify collaborative opportunities.
- Plan projects, estimate resources to budget, and work on bids, technical proposals, and quotations, working closely with the bid team and commercial team.
- Work with the Engineering Manager (Power Electronics) to ensure activities are in-line with company strategy.
- Act as a strategic thinker responsible for the development of new and emerging technologies.
- Provide mentoring and support to other teammates.
About you; you will have:
- A Master’s degree/ PhD-level qualification or equivalent technical experience in Computer Science or related field
- Previous experience in building machine learning solutions in a commercial, industrial or academic setting
- Good working knowledge of implementing supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques
- Experience in programming solutions using Python or similar, including building backends and command line tools
- Experienced in data visualisation and dashboarding
- Significant relevant engineering industry experience, being recognised as an expert in their domain
- Proven experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment including design, test and manufacture
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent team-working skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues.
- Excellent demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to quickly understand complex issues and propose solutions
Desirable Experience:
- Previous experience with LLM models
- History of translating research output into working prototypes
- A systems engineering approach to projects
- Familiar with engineering lifecycle management
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
