About Client
The client is a diversified multinational corporation with primary operations in agribusiness and transportation. Key segments include Foods (premium pork products), and Marine (containerized shipping services). The client engages in international grain processing and trading through its Commodity Trading and Milling division and operates in sugar production, power generation, and turkey processing. The client markets products under several renowned brands with a global footprint across America, the Middle East, Africa, the Pacific Basin, and Europe.
The Challenge
The client faced challenges migrating from an IBMi-based application to a React JS and Node JS-based P2P suite while retaining their IBMi DB2 database. The application’s reliance on IBMi-generated physical and logical files created inefficiencies, as these files were only compatible with the IBMi environment. All physical and logical files were converted to tables and index views To address this issue. This conversion enabled the new application to function effectively with the existing database structure.
Technology Stack
The Solution
The solution involved leveraging Synon to generate DDL tables for Synon physical files and create indexes or views for Synon logical access paths, ensuring compatibility between the new P2P suite application and the existing IBMi-based application. This approach allowed both applications to effectively share and utilize the same IBMi DB2 database, maximizing efficiency and continuity.
By incorporating advanced DB2 features such as Identity and Varchar clauses, the solution enhanced data handling capabilities and optimized performance. The conversion from DDS to DDL was carefully managed to prevent data loss, maintaining complete data integrity throughout the migration process and ensuring a smooth transition to the new application environment.
Business Impact
Achieved significant cost savings by avoiding the purchase and implementation of additional tools and software.
Ensured complete preservation of all production data throughout the migration, maintaining data accuracy and continuity.
Maximized the value of the existing database by allowing seamless re-utilization across both the legacy and new applications, supporting operational efficiency and reducing disruption.
