As per a UNICEF report, India has over 29.6 million orphaned and abandoned children in India, which is rising every year. Programmers.io found out that these children require health, nutritional, educational, hygienic, and social support to get an equitable chance for prospering in life. To materialize this vision, Programmers.io sought to collaborate with organizations that nurtured children in need, helping them to grow despite the difficulties they face in their daily lives.
Compassion Charitable Trust is an organization sheltering orphaned and helpless children who have been left on the streets to cope by themselves. Founded in 2001 by John and Asha Chaco, the organization has provided nutrition, clothing, shelter, basic education, spiritual guidance, and medical care to over 1000 children, helping many of them to become established professionals. Realizing a similarity in goals and vision, Programmers.io joined hands with Compassion Charitable Trust to launch a meaningful CSR initiative.
Reinforcing a Sustainable and Healthy Livelihood
As a part of the initiative, nine dedicated members from Programmers.io visited the organization on January 5, 2025. The day began with an introduction to the vibrant children, who showcased their talents through delightful dance performances. As the day progressed, the team distributed grocery essentials and sports items, aiming to enhance both the daily lives and recreational opportunities of the children. These contributions were well-received both by the NGO’s founders and the children, expressing gratitude for their thoughtful support.
“We were deeply moved by the energy and happiness of the children. It was humbling to be part of their world, even for a day, and see the happiness that small acts of kindness can bring,” said Vicky Agarwal, the Lead IBM i Developer of Programmers.io. “This event was not just about providing materials; it was about building a connection and supporting these children in ways that empower them for the future.”
