About the Role

We build enterprise-scale Power BI solutions using an AI-assisted engineering approach. Our development model combines semantic models as code (PBIP/TMDL), modern report development practices (PBIR), Git-based delivery workflows, and extensive use of Claude AI to accelerate development, improve quality, and scale delivery.
We are looking for a Senior BI Developer who is comfortable using Claude as a core part of their daily development workflow and is excited to help shape how AI-assisted BI delivery evolves within the team.
This is neither a pure prompt-engineering role nor a traditional dashboard-development position. It is a BI engineering role where AI serves as a powerful development accelerator, while design decisions, solution quality, and business outcomes remain the responsibility of the development team.
 

Key Responsibilities

Semantic Modelling & Analytics

  • Translate complex and often ambiguous business requirements into scalable semantic models and reporting solutions.
  • Identify assumptions, clarify business logic, and ensure requirements are well understood before implementation.
  • Design and optimize enterprise-grade Power BI semantic models including Star Schema Modelling, Advanced DAX, DAX UDFs, Incremental Refresh, RLS, and Calculation Groups.
  • Analyse and improve model performance using DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, and trace-based diagnostics.
  • Ensure reporting outputs align with agreed business definitions and source-system data.

Modern BI Engineering

  • Develop and maintain semantic models using PBIP, TMDL, and Git-based workflows.
  • Participate in pull request reviews and collaborative development practices.
  • Support deployment processes across Development, Test, and Production environments.
 
  • Apply engineering best practices including source control, documentation, peer review, and release management.

AI-Assisted Delivery

  • Use Claude AI throughout the Power BI development lifecycle for semantic model development, DAX authoring, report generation, documentation, troubleshooting, and repository-wide refactoring.
  • Validate AI-generated outputs before implementation using appropriate testing and verification techniques.
  • Apply a trust but verify mindset when working with AI-generated recommendations and solutions.
  • Share effective AI-assisted development approaches with the wider team.

AI Enablement & Team Standards

  • Contribute to the team's AI development standards and reusable assets.
  • Create and maintain Claude Skills, project templates, prompts, and development playbooks.
  • Help establish repeatable patterns that improve consistency, quality, and productivity across projects.
  • Evaluate AI-assisted development approaches and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.

Client Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Present technical recommendations and trade-offs clearly.
  • Produce data dictionaries, semantic model documentation, measure catalogues, and solution design artifacts.
  • Support client teams in understanding reporting outputs and insights.
 

Required Qualifications

Power BI & Analytics Engineering

  • 6+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including advanced DAX and enterprise semantic model design.
  • Strong understanding of Star Schema design, VertiPaq optimization, filter context, context transition, and query performance tuning.
  • Experience using DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, or similar tools.
  • Ability to understand and optimise Formula Engine and Storage Engine behaviour.

Claude AI & AI-Assisted Development

  • Hands-on experience using Claude AI as part of day-to-day BI, analytics, or development work.
  • Ability to demonstrate how AI has improved productivity or accelerated delivery.
  • Experience reviewing, validating, and refining AI-generated outputs.
  • Comfortable working in an AI-assisted development environment where Claude is a core tool.

Engineering Practices

  • Strong Git-based development experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data analysis.
  • Experience with clients, business users, or consulting engagements.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to quality, testing, and continuous improvement.
 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Claude Projects, Skills, Claude Code, and MCP-based workflows.
  • Experience with PBIP and PBIR.
  • Strong knowledge of Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and VS Code.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric concepts.
  • DP-600, DP-700, or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience developing reusable AI assets and team standards.
  • Familiarity with Analytics Engineering or DataOps practices.
