About Client
The client, a privately held and majority employee-owned supermarket chain, is headquartered in Boise, Idaho, with a strong presence across ten U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Established in 1967, the company initially operated as a no-frills, warehouse-style retailer focused on delivering low prices. Today, it continues to uphold its legacy of value-driven retail while expanding its footprint and adapting to the evolving needs of its diverse customer base.
The Challenge
The client sought to enhance their SKU assortment initiatives by developing a more reliable report. Management expressed interest in leveraging data-driven insights to support these efforts and required technical expertise to refine the report.
To achieve this, they identified the need for a programmer to work with the data, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the report for informed decision-making and optimizing their assortment strategies.
Technology Stack
The Solution
The client implemented a robust solution to enhance their SKU assortment reporting process. After analyzing existing procedures, they created a query to capture item movement data for all active UPCs. Leveraging this query, the client developed a custom program capable of generating detailed CSV reports.
These reports covered a broad range of data, including grouped and non-grouped UPCs and department-specific insights. They encompassed every store and warehouse in the organization, selecting data from the past year to provide a comprehensive historical analysis.
By delivering these reports via email every quarter, the client ensured that key stakeholders had access to accurate, timely information. This enabled more informed decision-making and improved inventory management across the company.
Business Impact
Equipped management with in-depth reports that offered a clear understanding of the overall performance of active UPCs, enabling more strategic decision-making across the organization.
Delivered comprehensive insights into yearly item movement data, helping to optimize inventory management and improve SKU assortment strategies through data-driven analysis.
