The Challenge
With the introduction of the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) taxation system, the Indian Government mandated businesses to include critical GST information in their invoices, order confirmations, and purchase orders by December 31, 2017. This information included suppliers' and buyers' names, addresses, GST identification numbers, unique invoice numbers, dates, description of goods, HSN codes, quantity, unit price, total taxable value, tax breakup, and place of supply.
The client's standard Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package did not have the facility to customize the documents as per the new GST regulations. To accommodate this new customized documentation functionality, they needed to make significant changes and customize the ERP system within the deadline to avoid the penalties levied by the Indian Government.
Our Solution
Following an Agile methodology, Programmers.io delivered the solution within a 3-month timeframe.
Document Identification
The team at Programmers.io identified and listed all the documents that were supposed to comprise the required GST information as per the government's regulations.
Document Format Setting
The Programmers.io team collected the GST information from the client and set the new document's format by implementing the data as per the government's directions.
Document Customization
Each member of the team was assigned a set of documents to be customized, corrected, and managed to meet the requirements within the timeline.
Interface and Custom Report Development
The team developed an interface using the collected data and a new custom report generation feature within the ERP to serve as a dashboard for day-to-day GST detail monitoring.
Government Portal Integration
They created another interface to upload, view, and download GST data directly from the online GST detail management portal launched by the government.
Review and Feedback Implementation
A team leader acted as the central point of contact who monitored progress, resolved queries, reviewed changes, received client feedback, and ensured the team implemented them.
